We have dealt with Tom Clark and the Skito Company of Idaho for years. He has had years of experience creating pads for all disciplines, but he is perhaps the best known in the Endurance world. Where else could you ask for a better test of pads to provide the best in protection and fit? The secret of these pads is the open cell “memory foam” that he uses in the inserts. This foam is a heat sensitive and softens and molds to the shape of the horse’s back. When used as just a plain, flat insert, this material is wonderful for stabilizing saddles that shift, smoothing out any unevenness in the saddle panels and also absorbs shock. Skito also makes a whole series of shims that can accommodate many fitting issues, and can be an excellent way of offering your horse the most in comfort through weight and fitness changes. We have seen some remarkable changes in horse’s comfort with the use of the Skito pad.
We stock these pads for some of our most popular saddles, but Skito has patterns for many models which are available by special order. They also offer foam thicknesses up to 1” and many excellent options such as the “drytop” material, and specially designed pads for treeless saddles.
