We have
nothing but good things to say about Wintec saddles. Ron
Bates, the managing director of Bates, Australia, (the parent
company of Wintec) is a rider and horseman. He has worked to
design an incredibly user friendly saddle for both horses and
riders that offer a changeable gullet system that really
works, as well as the “Cair” air panel. Our experience has
been that it takes about 10 minutes and a little effort to
change the tree plate in these saddles. The plates range from
‘narrow’ to ‘extra wide’. A gullet gauge is available to
measure your horse if you are not sure, or it is very easy for
us to determine the tree width from a wither tracing. Whether
you chose the traditional flocked panels or the “Cair” panels,
we find they offer good weight distribution and a nice wide
gullet. The saddles come with a medium tree plate, and extra
plates are available for $19.95.
The ‘Cair’ panels consist of a very strong, thin sealed airbag.
The saddles have four bags, two front and two rear, that
softly mold to the horse’s back. The beauty of the air system
is that it virtually eliminates pressure points and dry spots.
We have had horses that had been very back sore respond
amazingly well to this panel. One fitting note is that these
saddles can tend to look a little perched up on the horses
back until the riders weight settles it down, so be sure to
make some of your fitting judgments while you are on board! It
is possible to add flocking to these panels, in the event that
more adjustment is needed, but we have found that the air
system can correct many of the fitting problems that
previously required re-stuffing.
The saddles have a ‘flexibloc’ system which allows the thigh
block to be moved on a Velcro panel under the flap. It allows
a very customized fit, and is particularly helpful for
allowing a bit of growing room, or if the saddle needs to be
shared by several riders.

different horses. It has a traditional leather appearance with ‘Equisuede’
padded flap. It has short billets and the removable/ adjustable knee

Given the range of saddles I tried
these past months who would have thought a Wintec saddle would have made
such a difference in the way my mare moved and performed. Of course it
was very comfy and secure for me too and I particularly liked the equisuede
seat and flaps and much prefer the chocolate brown color over the
black. Also I have to say Wintec has really improved the look and feel
of their saddles from the very old ones I rode in years ago on school
horses. Even my Hunter/Jumper trainer who originally dismissed the
thought of trying a Wintec after an Equine P/T recommended last November
as an alternative to spending $$$ on a custom made saddle, had to admit
it was the best fitting saddle he had seen on her and that she rode
lighter, more forward through her shoulders and carried herself in a
better frame. To top it off he thought the Wintec 2000 A/P was an
attractive saddle as well.

Wintec Wide
CAIR with changeable gullet system
Finally a
saddle designed to fit the cob or wider horse that's comfortable for the
rider, too! You won't believe it till you ride in it, but this saddle is
one of the best options for the wide bodied horse we've every ridden in.
It comes with three easy change gullets - all wider than the Wintec Extra
Wide gullet. The Wintec Wide will accept both the red and white
plates from the standard Wintecs, but the original Wintecs will not accept
the Wide's gullet plates. It has a broad chamber to accommodate a wide
back, yet the narrow waisted seat design is super comfortable for the
rider. The adjustable flexibloc system enables the rider to individually
tailor their thigh and knee support. The Y-girthing system secures the
front and back of the saddle - a necessity for barreled shaped horses. The
soft equisuede knee insert creates extra grip and comfort. We are stocking
the saddle in Brown and Black in seat sizes - 16.5, 17,
17.5 and 18.
